Trader Joe’s recalls signature almond cookies because they may contain rocks - New York Post

Trader Joe’s recalled two kinds of its signature almond cookies last week over concerns that they may contain rocks.

The recalled treats are the Almond Windmill Cookies and Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies with sell-by dates between Oct. 19 to 21 and Oct. 17 to 21, respectively, the grocery chain announced on Friday.

All of the products potentially impacted by the risk have been removed from shelves and destroyed, the statement read.

Customers who purchased or received any boxes of the cookies are also urged to discard or return them to a Trader Joe’s for a full refund.

Stones or pebbles are more likely to contaminate food products during harvest season, according to SafeFood360.

Rock contamination is most common in items that use raw material from fields, such as nuts, fruits, and vegetables, the food safety company explained.

News of the Trader Joe’s recall comes just a few weeks after Mondelez Global LLC recalled two varieties of belVita Breakfast Sandwich biscuits over possible undeclared peanut contamination.

No belVita products or markets outside the US were impacted by the Mondelez debacle, the company said earlier this month.
